Weekend Events in Boston Guide

September 9, 2019

I always seem to get asked where I find free events/things to do in the city. There's a million different places I come across them - word of mouth, email lists, Instagram, etc - but here are a few of my favorite ways to stay up to date on what's happening in Boston:

BosTen - One of my favorite places to find weekend events. Boston.com compiles a list of the top ten things to do for the weekend, which they publish on Thursday mornings. You can sign up to get the email, or find it on the website . They also have a Facebook group where people share additional events and ideas.

Boston on Budget - Both weekly and weekend events are posted on here, as well as budget friendly Boston tips.

Boston Chefs - This website is one of my favorite spots to find dining specials and restaurant events.

The Boston Calendar - They always have a ton of weekly events listed here, but they also do a weekend roundup on their Instagram.

Boston Magazine -  This is a great website in general for all things Boston and New England, but they also share two of my favorite event listings: Things to Do This Weekend in Boston and Free Events of the Month. You can subscribe to get updates on happenings as well.

Eventbrite - Most people are familiar with Eventbrite, but you can create an account and get weekly alerts on events you may be into based on your interests. They also have a page with popular events in the city.

Facebook - Many events I find I see in advance through Facebook events. You can always check there and filter by dates to see what’s coming up near you on any given weekend.

Last minute sports tickets - Living so close to where all the major sports teams play in Boston means you can get last minute tickets for almost nothing. AceTicket and StubHub are good places to check a few hours before a game for cheap tickets (sales usually end two hours before the game).

Best Things to Do In Boston - I’ve done a couple of blog posts on what to do with visitors in the city, as well as rainy day activities.

Additional tip: I follow a lot of my favorite/local restaurants and bars that often share on their Facebook and Instagram pages about upcoming events.

Social media has become so video focused and curated, and I find myself missing the early days when a simple photo and an IG filter were all you needed.
